Always an avid “classic kiddie-lit” reader, I can’t believe that I was around 40 years old when I first discovered Esther Averill’s amazing stories about Jenny Linsky and the Cat Club.
I think that it was the amazing look of the New York Review Children’s Collection editions that first caught my eye. And I was hooked! The stories are amazing. The little black cat, Jenny Linsky is a marvelous heroine. And the author certainly knows her feline personalities. They are not mere anthropomorphics. They live as cats and her insight into their behavior and motivation is keen!
There are several of these books in the series. But I have been reading them ever so slowwwwwwly over the years. I just don’t want them to end.
They are available at the NYRCC link, or at Amazon (‘natch), for a song.
The other offerings in the catalog look equally pleasing. Will have to check out.
